I can’t help it. I love this.
You know, if PETA wasn’t run by flaming idiots out to create controversy rather than persuade people, they might promote the above video segment rather than come up with bestialist sadomasochistic trash like this or this. (Warning: graphic cartoon gore.) Talk about your unresolved psychiatric issues. Talk about wanting to be right rather than persuade people. Talk about that second PDF making me think of BitchPhd’s still-unpunished death threats against Thistle.
(Indirect hat tip on the PETA crap: Teresa Nielsen Hayden.)

I like this, but, I what I really, really like is to see a kangaroo surpise punch someone out. I like the way their ears slant a little, and then BOOM. They’re fast.
On the other hand, elephants attacking just makes me cry, because you know the backstory is mountains of sadness and badness.

Yeah, Remember that news report a few years ago of an elephant rampaging, I think it was in Hawaii? From a circus or something, she finally had had enough, got fed up and trashed the place, and of course they killed her.
They showed it on the news to make her look like a villain, a crazy wild elephant. But there were allegations of mistreatment…
You could just see the fear and desperation in her as she frantically tried to find a way out of the horror that she found herself in. It made me bawl like a baby.
if I could edit my comment, I would add that they shot her as she was running down a street trying to escape.
DarkyMac, I think you misunderstand me slightly, and it is no surprise someone might, as I was rather telegraphic.
I have no problem — as I suspect you are aware — with people starting their opinions flatly. I don’t see a difference between that and persuasion, which I do not use as a synonym for “cajoling”.
I do have a problem with the statement “keep your puppies and kitties away from Daddy because he’s an animal killer” if Daddy catches fish.
I’m disgusted by the luxury fur industry, and I have my own squeamishness issues about sport fishing — I’ll do it to eat if I have to, but the notion of catch-and-release strikes me as unnecessary cruelty for human recreation. In short, I agree more or less with PETA’s aims here. But their approach here is to provoke reaction for the sake of publicity, even if that reaction is counterproductive. It’s confusing the profile of the organization with the success of the cause, the triumph of marketing over ethiocs and strategy. And that’s a hallmark of fucking idiotism.
I do wonder why PETA takes on a couple relatively marginal industries and yet has failed to produce a comic book telling kids they should stay away from Spot and Muffin if they like hamburgers and hot dogs, because kids who like hamburgers and hot dogs are not to be trusted around animals.
Also it looks like something’s up with the Flicker site.
