Four descriptions of nature writing

Four descriptions of nature writing: The literature of loss, an elegy, a lamentation. An "antidote to despair." Conversely, the antibodies of doom, words and experiences that remind us of our vital connections to the natural world so that we might repair and revere them. My favorite: Writers write because they can't shut up.

— Ellen Meloy, Northern Lights, Summer 1998, Volume XIII Number 3.
