Tonight, before going to bed

The owl is back again, flying up and down the neighbor's driveway past our windows as it has for the last three years.

I still wonder sometimes if that pretty owl still lives in the Sears sign (or was it J.C.Penney?) at Hilltop Mall.

I used to visit him every night after a late movie.

One night many years ago, a bunch of us were sitting in a hot tub in southern california. We were comfortably drifting in the hum of pumps and hot water jets, when there was a sudden and persistent squeaking and eeping coming from somewhere, and coming closer and closer. Before any of us could say anything, an owl flew by so close to us that we could see the little critter it had in its talons, and hear its cries as they flew by.
