Welcome Bérubé and Metafilter [and Patrick Nielsen Hayden] readers!

Funny what a couple of friendly links will do.

If you're new here, thanks for stopping by! I appreciate your comments, positive or not. And don't worry: not all my posts are as long as the one just below this one. In fact, I think that's the only one.

[Updated: Yes, yes, thanks for stopping by if you're not new here as well.]

[Updated further: thanks to Patrick Nielsen Hayden as well for his gracious mention.]

When I was doing my "hurricane blogging" last fall, I found out that my blog had been posted to MeFi from a girl who wrote me to request a Gmail invite. I checked my site meter and found that there had been several hundred hits in the previous few hours. I had only installed the hit counter a month before, so for one brief moment the "average number of hits per day" went from 15 or so to 50 overnight. Heh.

Congrats!

After looking at the sitemeter graph, suddenly the 40 or so visitors I got from spillover doesn't seem like a lot.

Yes, I'm new here, and I also came via Bérubé's link to your amazing "Life and Death". I see you like fado... Maybe you like the Beatles too? Here's to a smiling start for your day:
