I was raised Episcopalian, so this would no doubt be hysterical if I could only remember what "Hernando's Hideaway" sounded like.
I heard the "Emily Dickinson-Yellow Rose of Texas" factoid also cited on that blog while in high school. It ruined my enjoyment of her poetry for many years.Posted by: the_bone at May 5, 2005 04:42 PM

"one can sing The Doxology to the tune of Hernando's Hideaway" -- Gee, Chris, you mean you didn't already know this tidbit? Our choir has blessed many a potluck with that tune. (Bone: if it helps, try this, in a clipped rhythm: da-DA, da-DA, da DA-DA-DA - "I KNOW/her-NAN/do's hide-a-way - "Praise GOD/ from WHOM/ all (fast)ble-ssings-flow/Praise HIM/ all CREE/chers here below...) Yeah. Back to work.Posted by: beth at May 6, 2005 07:58 AM
Well, Beth, as you know I was raised Roman Catholic, which is completely different.Posted by: Chris Clarke at May 6, 2005 09:09 AM
