Mojave nerd photos
Sunrise Rock, Cima Dome, Mojave National Preserve, California. Photo by Matthew Carlstroem. I wasn't blogging, honest. The desert has no wi-fi. I was just emptying my camera's compact flash card so that I could take more depressing photos of burned Joshua trees.
"The desert has no wi-fi" would be the worst first line in a Tony Hillerman novel ever.

But why DOESN'T the desert have wi-fi, asks Tom Friedman. Just wait; when he's Ruler of the Universe it will.

Gee, I thought it was hot in France.
Posted by: KathyF at August 3, 2005 11:38 AMYou mean there's a novelist for whom "The desert has no wi-fi" would not constitute the Worst. Opening. Evar?
