Down, girls

Via Ron;

Male Veterinarian Appointed Acting Director of Women's Health

Symbolic of the importance the Bush Administration places on women's health, a male veterinarian has been appointed[...] as acting director of the Office of Women's Health. Norris E. Alderson, PhD, has spent the majority of his career at the FDA holding various positions in the Center for Veterinary Medicine.

The Office for Women’s Health[...] was most recently headed by Dr. Susan Wood. Wood resigned late last month in protest over the FDA’s refusal to grant over-the-counter status to emergency contraception.

Update: there's either been a change of plans, or Ron and I fell for a hoax. As in media res points out in comments, the appointee is female and an expert in medicine as it pertains to human females.

Wiped the spittle from my lips after reading this post and clicked thru to the site - there has apparently been a change of plans since the site is no longer operational. If you go to the home page you are directed here:
Apparently someone named Theresa Toigo is now the acting head...wonder who figured it out. I'm almost sorry - the symbolism of the male vet was so perfect an example of the thinking of this crew.

And what does it say about Bushco that I could believe that he'd appointed a male vet to oversee women's health issues?

I had the same thought as Vicki-- I certainly could believe that Bush would appoint a man familiar with veterinary medicine to the FDA's Office of Women's Health. Nothing about this administration makes any sense to me. Must be all that penguin magical thinking going around in Christian Conservative circles. Animals have so much to teach us heathens!

Why is it always, "Down, girls"? Don't girls ever go up?

(spoken in my best post-patriarchal voice...)

Oh, yeah, we do. We sure do.

Prolly someone in the White House realized there were going to be jokes about spaying and neutering for birth control.

Speaking of which, right after Katrina, someone asked Bush his opinion of Roe vs. Wade. He said "Well, the main thing is for those people to get out of New Orleans. It doesn't really matter how they do it."

(This is a joke. Funny how believable it is, huh?)

Even if it was a hoax you can't be blamed for falling for it. We are in surreal times. (Is that proper grammer?)

Hey, maybe the last 4+ years have all been just an elaborate hoax!? The REAL government is just about to jump out and yell "April Fools!"
