Hey, that one on the left is my great-Uncle!
The one on the right, though, looks unfamiliar. I doubt he (it?) belongs in the same family.
Posted by: coturnix at February 5, 2006 06:54 PMWatch it, Chris. Members of the Orangutanian sect, though not numerous, are highly organized and viciously vengeful. More than one blasphemer has been found dead with a banana shoved up his wazoo.
Posted by: Hank Fox at February 5, 2006 08:24 PMNaughty, naughty.
Posted by: Lauren at February 5, 2006 10:12 PMSorry, I think your wordless comment is far too superficial. Please see the excellent editorial in the GUARDIAN on this http://www.guardian.co.uk/religion/Story/0,,1701092,00.html.
I'm not particularly offended by the Christian thing, though I can imagine some might be; but then, we don't have religious proscriptions about depicting our religious figures. Muslims do; and given the right-leaning sentiments in Denmark, it seems a bit vicious at the least, rather than insightful.
Sorry, I think your wordless comment is far too superficial.
It's too bad no one else on the net has mentioned the issue then. I must have let you down horribly.
Posted by: Chris Clarke at February 6, 2006 06:33 AMI can't believe you're monkeying around with this!
And with no words--how will I know what to be offended by?Jesus evolved from orangutangs? If Jesus hadn't given up his long orangutangian arms and prehensile toes for the sake of a hair-free back, he could have survived cruxifiction? That orangutang is gay too?
(And, just for the record, Christianity also prohibits visual representations of the divine. It's the second commandment. It's just one of those things we obey about as well as: not wearing red on Fridays, having a priest perform an excorcism on your bathroom when you get mold between the tile, loving your neighbor, giving away all of your stuff to people who have nothing...and just about everything else that's actually written in the bible.)
Posted by: Rain at February 6, 2006 07:20 AMI SO want to steal that photo.
Posted by: Roxanne at February 6, 2006 08:05 AMI'd rather be a hammer or a nail instead of Jesus . . .
Posted by: biosparite at February 6, 2006 10:47 AMwhich one is mohammad?
Posted by: dread pirate roberts at February 6, 2006 12:15 PMI'll be right over to protest angrily outside your home.
Posted by: e at February 6, 2006 02:00 PMExcellent! I'll heat up the leftover paella from Saturday!
Posted by: Chris Clarke at February 6, 2006 02:02 PMIf you haven't seen this already, you definitely should not do so!!

I am wondering however, how many hardwood species of orangutan bearing/supporting trees have been decimated to the point of endangerment to make those funny, cross-thingies???
Posted by: spyder at February 6, 2006 03:29 PMstop. you are insulting the orang utan.
I normally avoid Fark as though I would hepatitis, but that thread was pretty funny.
Posted by: the_bone at February 6, 2006 07:19 PMYou avoid Fark by not sharing needles and insisting restaurant employees wash their hands after using the bathroom?
Posted by: Chris Clarke at February 6, 2006 07:26 PMI can understand the angle your taking. In noramal circumstances I would be offended. However, my main concern about all this fuss is that I have not yet to seen these cartoons, and I have access to all means of media, whilst those protesting, burning and killing people come from areas having close to no access to media.
One queries if this is really about offensive cartoons, have we simply given them an excuse to protest against something.
I do not see these same people protest against corruption, dictatorship, sexual and religious racism in their own countries.
Unfortunately, our Governments are now rushing to censor our media (wether offensive or not) rather than pushing corrupt dictatorships to improve the lot of their people.
Are we giving these governments/immams a good excuse to divert their peoples attention from real life improving issues?
And as a last note. The Orangutan probably has a better life, and more freedom, than many of these very same people.
Posted by: Paul at February 7, 2006 12:32 AMDon't fool yourself, Paul. The Orangutan has more freedom than us.
And he/she doesn't have a better life than us, it's because we, as humans, aren't letting him/her.
One queries if this is really about offensive cartoons, have we simply given them an excuse to protest against something.
Of course it's not about offensive cartoons. Only the Malkins of the world would have us believe that it is, because that allows them to dehumanize those who are protesting.
I do not see these same people protest against corruption, dictatorship, sexual and religious racism in their own countries.
Then perhaps you need to open your eyes.
Posted by: Auguste at February 7, 2006 01:03 AMOh, great. Just great. Now we're going to get Michael Medved chortling about the weak box office for The Passion of the Orangutan.
