chris, where was this photo taken?
Posted by: kathy a at February 10, 2006 09:44 AMi meant to say -- it is a wonderful photo! we are having such amazing weather, and to me, the hills look like some of the ones nearby. but i have not heard of elk here, so i suspect the photo was taken elsewhere. [not that i'm any kind of expert...]
Posted by: kathy a at February 10, 2006 09:49 AMDo Tule elk bugle? I lived in and near the Owens Valley for decades, and weirdly never even saw Tule elk except at a considerable distance, so I don't know if they make that delicious sound the bigger ones make.
But if you're ever hiking elk-domain on a day during their rut, and you come to an area where bull elk are advertising their masculinity, you'll hear a delightful high-pitched song, a series of rising notes that sound more like a dying calliope than a quarter-ton horny herbivore shouting "Me! Me! Me!" at the world.
Here's a couple of links to the sound:

And look for more tule-elk-related blogging later in the day.
Posted by: Chris Clarke at February 10, 2006 10:00 AMnow you are being sneaky here Chris posting the following over at Berube whilst not mentioning it here, when you previously suggested you would get back to "da plan."
And it depresses me too. But plans are afoot to move to a full-time writing thing before too many more months go by.
So. What plans are afoot, or being walked upon, or becoming cephlopodic, oh wondrous professional editor guy?
Posted by: spyder at February 10, 2006 01:37 PMNews for you next week, I think. sit tight.
