Toad in the Hole

Joe was in the UC library today and heard someone say that Alan Dundes, the urban folklorist, had dropped dead. Haven't heard it from official sources yet... Maybe it's an urban legend.
If not -- damn.Posted at April 1, 2005 06:19 AM
Yes, he died March 30. He had a heart attack during a lecture, or so sayeth SFGate.com.
I'm sorry I never met the man -- he must've been a fascinating person.

Yeah, I saw it in the Chron the next day or so. I never met him either, and he was right here in town. Also never met Luis Baptista of the Cal Academy of Sciences, the birdsong scholar. Et alii. One could get awfully lugubrious and depressive about death, and time running out, and all that stuff, one could.
I had a flash the other day that if we keep the present car, the RAV4, as long as we kept the faithful (and still running) Toyota pickup, I'll be 70 when we're shopping for a new one. How's that for scary?
