War on Christmas Post of the Week
... is Friday 12/16 (that'd be today) at Janis' blog but I'm not sure it's a practical solution, what with increasing commercialization across the board and all.
My Private War on Christmas: Can you believe I was stoooopid enough to get braces installed at the start of the holiday season? I might have to arm myself for all occasions with one of those stick blenders, as our friend John suggested.
Pass the goddamned eggnog, and Merry Fucking Christmas.Posted at December 17, 2005 02:55 AM
Ron? Wow ... just found your blog. Followed you over here from pharyngula (one of my LJ friends made the ... errm ... 'warmer' :-) )
Anyways - nice to meet you on-line. Best wishes for the holidays to yourself and Joe.

Hey, Ali! Hello, welcome, and um congratulate your friend for me. Was that the Cthulu, the FSM, the Trogdor, or all of them?
Good holidays to you and your family, too!

eww, sorry about the braces! i know the place where your personal torture happens -- only by the, er, artwork on the front of it, which i pass often. it will be somewhat less intolerable in time, but i'm glad to bring you eggnog if you are in need.

Thanks, Kathy -- that's exactly what I needed to hear. Especially the part about the eggnog. I managed to eat most of a chile relleno, some refries, and guacamole tonight at Juan's, where we'd agreed to meet a friend. This is progress.
Isn't that "artwork" just the weirdest thing? It's always given me the willies. The folks working there are OK, tho'.

I've become a total scrooge. By Nov 15th I'm sick of Christmas. I still haven't shopped. I want to to be January already, so I can lie down for a week.
But eggnog, mmmmm! :)

I am going to have to make you some comfort food so that the braces don't seem so bad. I think that Mac and cheese (from scratch of course) are in order.

Janis, I'm cheering up just thinking about it. (Insert wide tinselly smile.) Considering I have to eschew (sorry) ribs for two years... I'm not even going to say "Mr. Barbeque" and "tofu" in the same breath.
Karen, glad to see you had a chance to come up for air! Hey, one more week of soap, soap, soap, and you can get back to normal. What a coincidence; I was just talking to Joe the other day about suggesting BBQ-flavored soap... or at least smoke-scented. I have rather an enthusiastic reaction when he comes in all um marinated from the Weber kettle...
