Cultural Secrets

Little-known fact about the Oakland Museum, with current relevance for you-know-who-you-are: If you wear sandals or clogs, no socks, and you lean casually against the railing around the koi pond and slip one foot out of its shoe and dabble your big toe in the water, one of the koi will probably come up and suck on it, and it's a seriously blissful feeling.

i have this sudden urge to go to the museum! maybe i actually will, once the rain slows down a little. a koi encounter has got to be serously soothing -- at least by contrast to certain other parts of life.
