We Lost

My sister died Friday afternoon when we had life support withdrawn.

I'll write more when I get home. This sucks more than anything else in my life, ever.

Ron - I'm sorry to hear this. You're in my thoughts.

I would write a poem about how
the room where the loved one died
was very small. This poem would pull
away the walls of the room
into a very dark blue infinity, full
of stars, and clouds, and the sounds
of night insects, and comets,
and the northern lights!

I would write a poem that worked out
how the forces pass through the room:
grief, anger, fear, and terror.
Devastation. Annihilation.

I would write a poem that was simple
as I could make it.

The poem would speak of the loved one,
how she came and passed through the room.
How the loved one spoke, groaned, was gone.
The poem would speak of the faces
of everyone in the room, and of how the forces
appeared on their faces.

This poem would be a drink of water
Because grief turns everything to ash
in your mouth. This poem would help you sleep,
this poem would help you cry,
this poem would help
you to speak of your grief,
and the room and the forces,
and the loved one gone.
This poem would help you.
I would write that poem, if I could.

Damn. I only cruise by once in a while Ron, but have to commiserate. So sad to read your news.

Ron, I only know you through exchanges on Chris' blog. I really can't imagine your pain -- I'm so sorry to hear about this.

We are so sorry, Ron. We'll be thinking of you. You are right - life really does suck sometimes.

Jeebus. I've been thinking of you. Now I know why. Write when you're ready, I have a not very damp shoulder.

Yes, it DOES suck more than anything, ever. I'm so sorry.

(BDL, thank you for that poem.)

Take time to heal, to grieve, to honor your sister and her life. Take comfort in peace where you can. I'm so sorry.
