Public Service Announcement

We interrupt this dirgeatribe for a piece of consumer info. Maybe it's even a feminist HUHO.

Costco's pharmacies (based on my admittedly limited sampling) rock, and they really do sell stuff cheaper while being a full-service pharmacy. Costco treats its employees decently, pays better than W@l*M@rt, and has repeatedly won my shallow consumer heart.

You don't have to be a Costco member to use the pharmacy. Apparently this is a matter of federal law, so it applies wherever there's a Costco pharmacy. You just tell the person at the warehouse door that you're going to the pharmacy, and you get directed there.

If you're in or near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, tell them Julie's sister sent you.

Okay, I'll take your word for it. As it happens we are sometimes near a Costco and since we can't do Walmart, I have been eyeing it longingly. But you must see Idiocracy, a movie Miss P and I found very funny.

"Welcome to Costco, I love you. Welcome to Costo, I love you."

I saw a trailer for that, and was wishing we'd had the time and inclination for a big-fam movie night when we were all together during the late unpleasantness.

I must stipulate that at least here and in Orlando, the greeters/cardcheckers at the Costco doors don't do the "Welcome" speechlet. They do act civilized, say "Hello" or some such, even smile, but it's pretty normal and unforced.

Hey, I had no idea nonmembers could use the pharmacy. Cool. Thanks.

We used to be members, but I found I couldn't really shop at Costco without having a panic attack. The horrible disorganization mixed with crowds, lines, and poor front end management really made me nuts. However, it's a "blue" company, and the employees are treated well, last I checked having a far better benefits package than either Wal-Mart or Whole Foods.
